You Quit Drinking. Now What?
3 Coping Skills to Make Sobriety Stick
When I finally got it to click in my brain and accepted I can never change the way I drink, I thought that was it. I thought the work was over and now I would just live my best life.
I was so wrong.
Instead, what happened was I removed my only coping mechanism for “dealing” with emotions, disappointment, frustration, low self-worth, other people, and I had no other skills to fall back on. That was a recipe for me flipping out over minor inconveniences, taking everything personally, and staying overwhelmed.
Quitting drinking is the beginning of the work, and this private podcast is designed to teach you 3 coping skills I wish I learned when I was getting started. These are things I’ve learned through working with clients/members make a big difference in our quality of life after quitting drinking. You may still default to sugar, being cranky with other people, or toxic productivity, but remember, it’s a learning process. You will get there if you practice these skills.

I need to try harder vs I need to try differently
When we struggle, we automatically think we’re losers and that we need to try harder. It’s not about throwing more willpower at it. I’m sure you’ve already tried that.
It’s about trying differently.
Just like those moderation strategies you tried over and over, and those times you thought you were surely cured only to find out you still weren’t, if you continue to live in a loop approaching sobriety in the same way every time, then you will continue to get the same result.
Let me walk you through some other options.
