Hey! I’m Gill!

I use my biochemistry background and lived experience to help you understand your motivations and behavior, reduce shame, and guide you along the path of positive change. I specialize in alcohol use disorder and anger management.

Name Pronunciation: Gill, like Jill. Not Gil, like Gilbert :)
Before I started Sober Powered I worked in a lab. I expressed, purified, and characterized therapeutic proteins for research.
Everything changed when I got sober on Nov 9, 2019.
I needed to understand why, despite 5 long years of being dedicated to learning how to moderate my drinking, I could not stop drinking once I started.
Was I truly a weak-willed loser like the stigma says?
I set out on a quest to learn everything I could about how alcohol impacts the brain and our ability to moderate.
Now I share everything I’ve learned with you in my podcast, Sober Powered.
What People Are Saying
“I love science! That being said, I am not a scientist. That’s why people like me need people like Sagan, Nye and De Grass Tyson to exist. Simplifying complex ideas and explaining them to use laypersons is truly a unique gift that very few are able to do successfully- Gill has it!”

“I don’t have the words to express my deep gratitude for this podcast. The logic, science and compassion weaved throughout each podcast has been an encouragement to me. Take a listen!!! You will be so grateful you did!”

My Work
I worked in labs for almost 6 years, but the more my podcast grew, the more opportunities I had and the more I realized working in biotech wasn’t the best fit for me. I left to become a full time podcaster in June 2022.
Now, I host the Sober Powered Podcast and am an adjunct chemistry professor at a university in Boston.
I started a small community called Living a Sober Powered Life to support others in their journey to quitting drinking and I help others with sober coaching and anger management.

Meet the Team
This was a one woman operation for over 2 years and it was very difficult. I am so thankful to my amazing team for helping me stay on track, have more balance in my life, and for lending their expertise and care to Sober Powered. I would not be able to do all of this without them.
Kristy Sarausky, Operations Manager
Kristy helps manage operations in my Living a Sober Powered Life Community and behind the scenes of my business. Most importantly, Kristy helps make sure I take care of my mental health while running a 24/7 business. She is a certified recovery coach with a masters in adult education, and her expertise and compassion has been essential.
